The yard/habitat garden of Candace Tomlinson
Members Only Free Event Chapter Social Home Garden Tour Free Public Parking
Join us as we gather at the 1951 brick ranch house and large yard/habitat garden of Candace Tomlinson in recovery from grass, junipers, too many trees and a misguided phase of non-native xeriscape favorites (think Russian sage, cushion spurge, variegated vinca major, Jupiter’s beard). After 23 years, inching toward the final goal of a mostly prairie cottage garden with 75 percent natives, a few mostly old trees, some traditional garden perennials (hardy roses, peonies, Carol Mackie daphnes), a few xeriscape holdovers (catmint, plumbago), a catnip forest for the cats, and room for a few edibles like strawberries and raspberries. So an eclectic, mishmash, multi-purpose, jack-of-all-trades garden for people, pets, birds, pollinators.
