Join Stephen Hornbeck for an examination of regional plants and their unique seed adaptations. Our native flora display a myriad of highly specialized adaptations to our extreme climate, but adaptations do not end with leaf margins and flower forms, seeds also carry specialized traits to help them be successful. These traits are critically important for the survival of the species but often pose challenges for us when we try to grow them. We will discuss these ins and outs of seeds and seed dormancy and how you can apply that information to your own growing and gardening practices!

Stephen Hornbeck is the Native Plant Nursery Manager at the High Plains Environmental Center.
Always a lover of the biosphere, he found his niche in watershed ecology and habitat monitoring at a private ecological consultant company based out of Lexington, KY. Working throughout the Appalachians allowed him to see diversity and variations across a spectrum of environments, deepening his affinity for flora and fascination with evolutionary adaptations. After moving to Colorado, he found a wonderful pairing of his fascination with flora and passion for conservation at HPEC.
